Coming up with an idea for my first project was one of the harder things I've had to do in a while. An assignment that asks you to create something is intimidating and thrilling at the same time.
Driving home on afternoon I had an "AHA!" moment. Suddenly I had thought of a way I could combine my love of art with "Weird Science". A few talks in class have been centered around electricity. What is it, what can it do, how did it bring Frankenstein to life? Thanks in large part to the help of Jerry Chamkis I was able to explore these questions about electricity in the realm of art. I tried to answer the question: What sort of art would electricity create if it were given a chance? Electricity does so much, but says nothing. I wanted to give Electricity a creative voice.
To answer this question, Jerry and I built a device that, when attached to my hand, would send controlled shocks to my fingers that resulted in random convulsions. Taking advantage of this, I simply put a pencil and paintbrush in my hand and let electricity draw/paint the picture that it wanted. As uncomfortable as the process may have been, I'm proud of the end result. I hope you enjoy.
